Esperanza Rising

Esperanza Rising  -  by Pam Muñoz Ryan

This book is about a girl who has a lot of money because her dad is a grape farmer but one day something happens to her dad and they suddenly have to care for the whole ranch by themselves, Esperanza and her mama. Her uncles want to marry Esperanza’s mom but her mom does not want to marry the uncles. They are forced to leave Mexico to go to California in hope for a better life. They board a train that is going to America and ride it for a very long time. When they get to America they live on a farm with one of their servants family’s. They are forced to work for not much money but by the end of the book everything works out.

In my opinion I think that this was a good book with some harder parts to read about working on a farm really hard and not having very much money. I think that the lesson in this book is that no matter where you are or how much money you have things will always turn around somehow and life will get better.

I would recommend this book for girls who have heritage to Mexico or have visited it because I like to be able to connect books to things that have happened to me in real life.

  1. I absolutely loved this book and getting to read about a person's life that is completely different from mine. Did you learn anything from this story? Did it connect with your life story at all?
