The Friendship War

The Friendship War by Andrew Clements

Characters: Grace, Ellie, and Hank

Summary, Grace goes on a trip to Boston to see her Grandpa that just recently bought an old mill. Grace and her grandpa go into the mill. Over the years the mill has produced many things. Grace goes up the stairs that used to be a sewing warehouse and in a closet she finds a box of buttons! When she gets back home she asks her grandpa to send her the buttons and then Ellie, her best friend at school wants everyone to bring buttons to lunch so they can share and swap. Grace brings a lot of buttons but only shares one bag. The next day a lot of people are trading buttons and collecting them. At first it is fun but then it starts testing friendships. Grace is in the middle of it and has to figure out if Ellie is really her friend.

This is a very good book and I think I read it in about a weekend, but overall I would recommend this book. This is a more challenging book and it would be better for older kids but still if you are younger you should read this book with a parent. Also it inspired me to collect buttons!

  1. This looks like a good book, Harper. I'm pretty sure that I have a jar of buttons that we need to look through. Maybe we can find a really special one!

  3. Since I sew, I have become a button collector by accident! One time, a friend gave me a whole box of buttons that are antiques and meticulously organized. Remind me to show you sometime! I like to use them for my fiber art projects. :)
